Whether you call your confidante your best friend, your true friend or a real friend it does not matter, but have you ever thought what your life would be without that one person. Even a million dollar cannot replace or buy you that one friend. A best friend is like a bright shining star waiting to be found in a sky full of stars, and not everybody can discover that one benevolent comrade in this world of selfish individuals.
I have read somewhere that the only way to have a friend is to be one, so I guess I could not be anybody’s best friend and therefore did not myself find one. I have always wished to have a best friend with whom I could have conversations which would be impossible to understand by other people and share secrets without any hesitation or judgement. But I have failed miserably. When I was in school, I only paid attention to studies and never went to any trips abroad with my friends thinking that those were crucial years and overseas trips and friends could wait. During college although I partied and spent lot of time with my friends, but towards the end of graduation I involved myself in our family business believing that friends were not going anywhere. Now after 4 years of graduation I realize that having a close friend is not easy and not everybody is lucky. There are times when I feel like sharing my point of view with a friend or when I wish to rely on someone for advice but cannot even find the right person who would listen to me.
Although I am grateful to God for bestowing me with many friends during my school days, college days and my friends at work, but I have always felt the absence of a close friend. I am thankful to my parents who are like my friends, but you still need a friend of your age sometimes. A friend who can understand me without me having to explain anything. A friend who would guide me like no one else.
I have also realized that I am not the only one who wishes to have a close friend; there are many people who feel the same way. However for many people this might not even be such a big deal. But some people can understand the meaning of a friend with whom you can talk anytime. A friend whom you can trust blindly. A friend who makes you feel special. Everybody needs that one friend who has been through all the crazy times with you.
As I express my feelings, I am not looking for sympathy, but merely reminding each one of you reading this who has a best friend to be thankful and never take that one friend for granted. Value your friends always. It is not easy to maintain a strong friendship; there are times when there might be fights and grim circumstances, but never let go of your friendship easily. I have learnt this from my dad and younger sister; come what may they have always found time for their friends and the outcome – their friends have always been there for them.
